Nicholas Sparks’ New Book will be set in Sunset Beach, NC! That’s right the one and only Nicholas Sparks has announced that his newest book Every Breath will be set in our very own Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
We’re so excited he’s picked Sunset Beach and we can’t wait to read the story! Maybe Pelican Bookstore is in it? Who knows!?!
His book will be in stores on October 16th!
Here is the press release from Nick himself about Every Breath set in Sunset Beach, NC!
I’m thrilled to be able to share the news with you that my twentieth novel, Every Breath, is set to be released this fall on October 16! In the tradition of The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe, my newest love story is about two characters who meet in a chance encounter one fateful weekend in Sunset Beach, North Carolina: Hope Anderson, born and raised in North Carolina, and Tru Walls – a safari guide born and raised in Zimbabwe – and the decades, continents, and bittersweet workings of fate that follow. I can’t wait for you to meet them.
In the coming months, I’ll be sending my mailing list subscribers an exclusive excerpt of Every Breath, sharing photos and stories from my recent African safari trips that inspired the character of Tru and offering up advance notice on a number of fun reader giveaways. Until then, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. While the book won’t be in stores for a few more months, you can pre-order your copy now!
Last night the CBS Evening News aired a feature on a local landmark, the Kindred Spirit Mailbox. They interviewed Frank Nesmith, who originally put up the mailbox over 30 years ago with his then-girlfriend, and author Jacqueline DeGroot. DeGroot’s books often feature the famed mailbox as well as other local landmarks. We sell all of Jacqueline’s books at the bookstore.
Since the “Kindred Spirit” and Frank are unable to take the 1.5 mile trek to the mailbox often, DeGroot volunteers to replace the notebooks inside, and ensure the safe keeping of the secrets and messages left with the mailbox. The story of the mailbox is a unique one, and one that brings a lot of pride to Sunset Beach. People have traveled far and wide to experience the few moments of tranquillity that await at the mailbox.

We are big fans of Marybeth Whalen’s here at Pelican Bookstore! She has done signings with us at Silver Coast Winery, and she writes about our beloved Sunset Beach. So, needless to say, we were ecstatic when we saw her new book was coming out soon. This one is called The Bridge Tender and like one of our favorites The Mailbox, this one is also set in Sunset Beach! Here’s the description from her blog:
“Emily must realize that her dreams didn’t have to die with her first love. When Emily Shaw, a young widow, learns that her late husband’s last surprise for her involves returning to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to realize an old dream of theirs, she reluctantly embarks on a summer of discovery in the midst of grief. There, in the oasis of the beach community, she meets a host of townspeople with their own broken dreams and unexpected situations. As the island citizens divide over the fate of a nostalgic bridge, Emily happens upon a man who just may be the one to restore her faith in dreams, hope, and possibly love.”
We are excited for this one! Hopefully Marybeth will come to Sunset Beach again this year for another signing. We’ll keep you posted!

Now that Fall is here and the colder weather is starting to settle in, it’s the perfect time to reflect back on summer and remember what a great season we had. Some of our favorite authors including Mary Alice Monroe, Dorthea Benton Frank, Diane Chamberlain paid us a visit, and we had some new authors like Valerie Tripp. We read some great books, met some wonderful people, and even managed to see the beach a few times. Here’s a video of some of our favorite summer memories.
Fall is here and that means the start of festival season! Next Saturday, October 5th, is the 7th annual Sunset at Sunset Festival! Pelican Bookstore is proud to be a sponsor of this great event that brings together all of our friends and neighbors, so come celebrate the history and the local culture of Sunset Beach!
The festival features lots of local vendors, amazing foods, and entertainment including The Imitations! Pelican Bookstore will have it’s own booth with local authors signing their books! It’s lots of fun for the whole family and best of all it’s free, that’s right there’s no admission. So come out and don’t forget to stop by the Pelican Bookstore booth! We’ll see you there!
