Come check out our wide selection of gardening books. From water gardens to shade gardens we’ve got it covered.

Everything is starting to bloom in our area. Forsythia, daffodils and even Lillie’s of the Valley. And if you look real close the azaelea’s are starting to peak out. We are supposed to get a few days of frost weather this weekend but after that….warm..warm….warm!!

Great news Vince Flynn’s eagerly awaited book “Kill Shot” will be on our shelf Tuesday the 7th of February and for romance check out Kristin Hannah ‘s new book ” Home Front” due out Tuesday or Tim Dorsey’s “Pineapple Grenade”

I find it interesting what the other parts of the world are reading!!! Number one in Italy is “The First Light of Morning’” Germany, “The Hundred Year Old Man who Climbed Out his Window and Disappeared”by Jonas Jonasson, in France “The Help by Kathryn Stockett and in Britain “Before I Go To Sleep” by S.J. Watson which is available in the US in paperback February 7. We read this book and it is truly a good read.

Kristin Hannah has released her new book “Home Front” about a mother and wife that is deployed to the Middle East. (Gorgeous cover). Dead Low Tide by Bret Lott set in Charleston is going to be a summer hit. Pat Conroy says “The best book Bret Lott has ever written-by far.”

Let’s talk about audio books! We sell new and used books on cd. Great for travel and this time of year a way to avoid all the buzz on the radio about the upcoming federal elections.

The best ones we’ve listened to lately: Charles Frazier’s ”Nightwoods” was a real treat to listen to. I know you’ve read “The Help” and probably seen the movie, but it is a real joy to listen to on a girls road trip. And if you have been putting off reading Pat Conroy’s “South of Broad”. Try it unabridged on cd. His beautiful way with words really shines.

Sometimes the reader makes all the difference, for instance in my opinion John Grisham should stick to writing and leave the reading to the experts and Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Lincoln,” abridged version is read by the author. A strong reader would have made all the difference.

James Patterson’s new hardback Private – #1 Suspect is new this week. It is the second book in this series. Catherine the Great by Robert Massie is still selling well and is a great read for winter. Non-fiction but reads like fiction.Janet Evanovich’s new book Love in a Nutshell is out and her first Stephanie Plum movie, One for the Money will be out in January with a great cast. Her books are a guaranteed laugh.

New in paperback include Dorothea Benton Frank’s Folly Beach and Tina Fey’s Bossy Pants. C.J. Sansom’s Hearthstone is also new in paper. Hearthstone is the fifth in the Matthew Shardlake series. If you aren’t familiar with this series, Shardlake is a hunchback lawyer who practiced during the reign of Henry VIII. Great historical fiction and great entertainment. These books are best read in order since the characters build through the series: Dissolution, Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation, and Hearthstone. We normally have all five in stock.

New this Holiday week! Always a favorite, Maeve Benchy’s book “Minding Frankie” is out this week in Paperback. Robyn Carr has a new Virgin River novel out in paperback. Dean Koontz fans have anew new hardback out “77 Shadow Street”.

If you like the supernatural; and witchcraft you’ll love “Discovery of Witches” out this week in paperback. Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks are starring in the movie “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” based on the book of the same title by Jonathan Foer. And a great new novel by Stuart Woods “D.C. Dead” a Sone Barrington Novel.

Looking for that hard to buy for niece or nephew? ”39 clues” Vespers series has released the second in that series. The new movie based on “Hunger Games” is due out soon, read the book first! This is a great book for 12 to adult. If you have a youngster just ready to read try Usbourne’s series of phonic readers such as “Fox on a Box” or “Pig on a Dig”.

Tom Clancys new thriller will be out Tuesday “Locked On” and just released a new novel by Patricia Cornwell “Red Mist” both would make great Christmas presents! Remember hardback best sellers are discounted 20 percent.

The Pelican elves tell me the Christmas cards will go on sale the 17th at 40 percent off. We have just received many cards that say Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach.
